Conservation at the Core

At NLN Farms, we place a strong emphasis on conservation and sustainable practices— protecting the environment while maintaining the highest standards of production. Crawfish farming requires moving millions of gallons of water in a short period of time, so we’ve developed innovative solutions to minimize our environmental footprint.

Each year, we recycle most of our surface water and store it in a designated reservoir pond for later use, helping to reduce waste and limit reliance on valuable aquifers. Through Nick’s innovative use of technology, we carefully monitor and manage water quality to ensure our crawfish thrive in a clean, sustainable environment.

By integrating these advanced practices, we’re able to balance productivity with preservation—safeguarding the long-term health of both our farm and the ecosystem around it. For us, conservation isn’t just a responsibility, it’s the foundation of our future and the land we cherish.

Conservation is more than a value, it’s a way of life. Our commitment extends beyond the crawfish ponds to the surrounding wetlands and natural habitats that make Eastern North Carolina so unique.

Our farm’s shallow waters and wetland-like environment provide a sanctuary for countless birds and wildlife. The changing water levels create diverse ecosystems that shift with the seasons, offering ideal conditions for these species to nest, feed, and thrive.

Through sustainable water management and careful stewardship, we’ve created habitats where waterfowl and other wildlife flourish alongside our crawfish production. As a family, we take great pride in watching these animals thrive, knowing our efforts support both the health of our farm and the preservation of local ecosystems.
